God is good: Testimony Tuesday

Testimony by Mrs Celina Selvam.

This Testimony is from my dear friend and relative whose faith has been such an inspiration to me in my journey with the Lord. This Testimony has been Work-in-progress for about 5 years and finally Akka was able to finish it. I’m posting it here for my readers. Read on, you will be blessed!

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, “says the Lord”, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

This was the promise that God promise gave me on March 14th, 2014 exactly a month before I could conceive Jeremiah (Our 5 yr old). I was waiting in my gynecologist’s office that morning, totally frustrated, hopeless and dejected after 10 long years of waiting, disappointment and fertility treatments. The office was empty since I was the first person present. I closed my eyes and framed these words in my mind, “Lord won’t you give me one more child, am I not worthy enough to have one more baby?” It was at this moment that my phone rang and someone sent me an email.

I’m not great at checking emails promptly, but that day it’s definitely God’s will and I opened the first thing I saw was this verse from Jeremiah 29:11. I hungrily held this promise close to my heart and one more time with all my faith. [Just the size of a mustard seed]. I closed my eyes and prayed, “God beggars can’t be choosers, I am not going to ask for a girl baby. We already have a boy [Joshua our first born is 15 years old] but if it’s your will, if you let us have one more boy, we will definitely name him Jeremiah.

That month also the treatment was not fruitful but God held me closer to him and made my heart happy so that without any doubt I was able to cling to his promise and continue with the treatment. The next month I conceived Jeremiah.

From the very first day, I was bleeding profusely. This caused fear and doubts in my heart [thats what the evil one will do]. I forgot all the promises and fear gripped me. Finally, when I was 15 weeks pregnant, I had to undergo a blood work and that day we also had a gender scan.

After doing all that, we came home and in a few hours the nurse called us and gave us the worst news possible. She said our baby has trisomy 18 and that it cannot survive. So rather than wasting time it will be wise to get rid of the baby from my womb. I felt shattered as any normal human mother would do. I gave the phone to my husband and ran into the bedroom. I only remember kneeling down and crying for a few seconds.

Suddenly like a slide show all the promises that God gave me came infront of my eyes, my tears dried and disappeared on its own. God renewed my spirits within me. Just the way Hannah ceased to worry after leaving her burden under God’s foot, I too felt lite and happy, filled completely with his joy. This is no power of mine because, “His strength is made perfect in our weakness”. After that, I asked only for one thing. I said, “God I am ready to believe without seeing but to carry and deliver this baby I need my husband’s support. Amen”. By then my husband was alone talking with the nurse, who wanted us to go to the hospital on Monday for the final procedure.

I could see the fear in my husband’s tear filled eyes. I cried one last time and said “He is our baby and we have named him already”. At this time God gave him the strength to say “Whatever it is, he is our baby let us have him”. It was enough for me at that time. I didn’t even shed one drop of tear after that. That very same day God made me give testimony in our Tamil fellowship meeting and again the following Sunday in our church. He made me repeat the same in our church service as well.
He put words in my mouth and made me say, [I didn’t pre-meditate a single word]. This is not a prayer request but a thanks giving testimony. The reports say my baby has trisomy 18 and will not come out alive but my God is a faithful to his promises, “I am carrying a whole healthy baby and am going to deliver the same”.
I had to visit the hospital as frequently as 3 to 4 times a week. Every time, new technicians and doctors in the scan room or some were there will ask me innumerable questions about my decision. God put the spin of cheerfulness in my heart and I was full of laughter and smiles always. Some of them even thought I am a pathetic illiterate woman who can’t understand English. But when God makes me speak & explain they would quietly go away.

After this, twice I heard my husband say “Whatever it is, he is our baby and we have decided to have him “. But our good Lord gave me the Strength again to stop him and say, “I am, carrying a wholly healthy and healed baby.”
Our good Lord who is so faithful to his promises, even though I am a broken vessel and totally unworthy of his mercies. He mercifully strengthened me through his promises each day. He kept giving me promises to reassure me. He gave me Jeremiah 1:5 as a reassurance. I could feel Gods presence at all times. He held me in his mighty arms and carried me along so that I didn’t have to walk on the rocky road. All I did was happily rest on His promises. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “He knows us even before we were formed”. That’s exactly what he did. He made me name my baby even before I could conceive him.

On December 6 2014 to everybody’s surprise, God blessed us with our whole healthy & healed baby Jeremiah. We serve an awesome God, the maker of the Heaven and the universe. Nothing is too difficult for him.

All praise be to my Savior and friend, Jesus alone, always!

… could no longer endure…

“So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD. And His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel.” Judges 10:16.

Often times we picture God to be a very strict Father…atleast that’s how I do.

But the scriptures reveal the core of His heart. ‘Compassion’.

El-Shaddai…El means ‘All powerful’. Shad – means a nursing mother… GODs compassion is like the compassion of a nursing mother…. Be encouraged…the bosom of the Lord who carried us all these years through several trials and tests will be Faithful to carry us and our families safely across the shore.

When we go to him with tears….His soul can no longer endure our miseries…..

Blessed day!

Diamonds in the dirt

The nature of God and who He is, is something that we will learn all through eternity, and still not come to the end of it. So Great is His beauty! The Psalmist said it this way:

“One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD..” Psalm 27:4

The beauty of God’s Nature is filled with UNENDING GOODNESS toward you and me. One such unique character of God, is His nature to cover our shortcomings, sins and our failures.

We all have had incredible Mothers whose gentleness and compassion can compare to none other, right? Can you ever imagine a Mother going to your neighbor and revealing all of your wrong-doings or weaknesses? I can never imagine my Mom do that! The World may shake and Skies fall down, but to a Mom, her kids are the Best!

It does not matter what A, B or C may say or think, a Mother, would never expose the weaknesses of her beloved Child.

When an earthly Mother has such a heart by nature, how much more God! God never exposes His Children to shame them. His heart is always bent toward covering our sins.

“….love covers all sins.” Pro 10:12

While Satan has always been finding ways to bring Shame to Adams race since the garden, Jesus is always looking for ways to restore Honor back to us.

When people look at us, it is possible that they see us through the lens of our shortcomings. But God’s eyes always look past our outward shortcomings and sees the diamond within.

Jesus always did this. Whether it was the sinner woman whom he rescued from being stoned to death, or the Samaritan woman who had lost all dignity of life amongst the people she lived with, because of her multiple marriages, or the blind man whom he embraced when the Pharisees cast out as a sinner – Jesus valued every single one of them!

Jesus met them to remove their disgrace and clothe them with Honor. He still does that today!

When all the world sees our weaknesses and failures, there is a Father in Heaven who sees the diamond within, because He values us and takes Great Delight to Honor us.

“I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor.” Isaiah 45:4.

Blessed day!

His Kingdom Rules:

Nestled amidst one of our favorite Psalms are these simple words: “His Kingdom rules over all.” Psalm 103: 19.

I’ve memorised Psalm 103 some years ago and recently, I did the Psalm with my son Jaden as well. But for some reason, the depth of the scripture had never dawned on me.

Everytime I read or heard about the Kingdom of Heaven, I thought of it to be a beautiful place of splendor, and one day when my race on Earth is o’er, I’ll finally get to behold that beautiful place.

Recently, I understood the scripture in a whole new light.

As much as it is true that there is a Physical place called heaven, it is also true that the Kingdom of Heaven is a spiritual place within each of us, where Christ rules and reigns as King.

“For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21

I was raising questions to myself. What is the purpose…. Why does the Kingdom of God have to be ‘within’ us?

Sharing a couple of nuggets that I learnt….

Just as the Kingdom of Heaven rules over all the affairs of the Earth, God desires that the Kingdom of Heaven should also rule over all the affairs of our lives. Isn’t that why, Jesus taught us to pray thus : “Let your will be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven.”

How would we know what the will of God for our lives is, if we don’t first seek His Kingdom? All the answers for our lives, pertaining to this life, is in the Kingdom. And the more we seek our King and the ways of His Kingdom, the more we walk out God’s will for our lives on Earth, as it is written in Heaven.

So, in everything, be it a small or a great matter, God desires that we seek first His Kingdom for guidance and direction (Matt 6:33).

Secondly, knowing that the Kingdom of God is within us also gives us great boldness to pray for the affairs of the Earth in accordance with the will of God. Irrespective of the darkness that we see all around us, the moment we step into the Kingdom of Heaven in prayer, a great Hope and Joy fills us because we are given the authority by our King, Christ Jesus the Nazarene, to decree Light into dark situations in this World.

“And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19.

What a relief to know that neither the Kingdom of darkness, nor the Governments of the World have real dominion, but rather “His Kingdom rules over all” – primarily through YOU and ME.

It is almost unbelievable the kind of authority that you and I   have, to impact the affairs of the World through prayer!

Blessed month ahead!

The Final Quest-Book Review

I’m not a voracious reader, but I enjoy reading. One of the books that I enjoyed thoroughly is the book, ‘The Final Quest’, by Rick Joyner.

The book is very similar to Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan, but it is slightly different, because it is a series of revelations that the author had, with respect to the last days’ battle between the Sons of Light and the Hordes of Darkness.

There has always been a battle between Children of Light and the Kingdom of Darkness, so the obvious question is Why would the battle be any different in the last days?

True that there has always been a battle, but in these final days of Satan’s time on Earth, he is going to come down upon the church in great wrath because he knows his time is getting shorter and shorter. (Rev 12:12)

Jesus Himself said that in the end of age, Satan will try to even deceive the elect, if that were possible. (Matt 24:24). So quite evidently, the battle is going to be very intense that the enemy is all-out-to-war to cause even the elect to stumble, if he can!

And we the Church, need to be not just prepared, but also be a diligent student of the scriptures to see through the enemy’s schemes, and also be equally equipped to cast down any evil scheme, that is possibly disguised as “righteousness”.

“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” 2 Cor 2:11

One of the words which Jesus used often with reference to the end of the age was, “Do not be deceived”. That tells us that Deception is definitely coming. And we’ve got to be equipped with all our armory in place.

This book, ‘The Final Quest’, I would say, helped me gain a deeper understanding of the reality that goes on behind every spiritual battle – be it a personal battle, or a family battle or a community level (church) battle. Also, What God expects from us and how the enemy tries every possible way in his capacity, to cause us to stumble in our walk with God.

But thanks be to God, who has not left us defenseless, but given us a variety of weapons to fight the enemy but the author goes on to say that very rarely, the child of God doth use it!

Excerpts from the book:

I saw a demonic army so large that it stretched as far as I could see. It was separated into divisions, with each carrying a different banner. The foremost and most powerful divisions were Pride, Self righteousness, Respectability, Selfish Ambition, and Unrighteous Judgment, but the largest of all was Jealousy. The leader of this vast army was the Accuser of the Brethren himself.

The weapons carried by this horde had names on them: the swords were named Intimidation; the spears were named Treachery; and their arrows were named Accusations, Gossip, Slander and Faultfinding.

Scouts and smaller companies of demons with such names as Rejection, Bitterness, Impatience, Un-forgiveness and Lust were sent in advance of this army to prepare for the main attack. I knew in my heart that the church had never faced anything like this before.

End of Excerpt.

I highly recommend the book! You won’t regret reading it. Hands down one of the best books I’ve read. I definitely would give it a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.

I was able to find a free download of the book. Here’s the link to the PDF file, guys.

Bid Me Come:

It’s sobering to see how things can go from calm to a storm in just a matter of days. Who would have thought that a microscopic organism could cause havoc to humanity of such great magnitude?!!

Together with the virus’s rampant spread, we have begun to see a wide range of other bricks slowly falling, ranging from the slowdown of the business sector to the crumbling down of the stock markets, worldwide. At this point, it is quite evident that all our hearts are anxious as to what’s NEXT???

Everyone says, “Don’t Panic”, but in situations such as these, where death tolls are on the rise and the economy unstable, isn’t it a normal human emotion to be anxious because of the uncertainties that lies ahead?

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” Psalm 94:19

God has been reassuring all of us through many ways, I’m sure! God is good! All the time! And today, I would like to quickly draw our attention to one of my favorite incidents recorded in the Bible – one which has spoken to me personally, in trying times.

Jesus had told his disciples to get aboard their boat and cross over to the other side. He was to join them a little bit later. While on their way on the sea, the disciples were caught in a raging storm.

Imagine yourself in the boat. The boat being rocked back and forth, the howling winds, the thunder, the lightning, and the water levels inside the boat slowly rising. Don’t you think you would have been terrified? I, most certainly would have!! Doubtless, the hearts of the disciples were melting in fear.

While they were struggling at the sails, their hearts weighed with fear, they saw Jesus coming walking on the Water toward their boat. At first they didn’t recognize him but when the Lord said, “It is I, don’t be afraid”, the disciples would have finally regained strength in their hearts – Just as we receive strength for our tomorrow’s, when the Lord comforts us with His Words and speaks to our hearts NOT to be afraid.

The story goes further. When Peter saw Jesus walking on the stormy seas, something inside of him was stirred up. He wanted to walk on the Water too! But He knew he just can’t get out of the boat and simply start walking. He NEEDED God to give him the WORD. He said, “Lord, if it’s you, BID ME COME.”

Jesus said, “Come.”

It was the WORD that proceeded out of the Mouth of God that kept Peter’s feet from SINKING. The Word of God had the power to help him keep walking on water. Even during these troubled times, what will keep us from sinking is the Spoken WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God. (Ref Mathew 4:4)

A man of God had a dream where he saw thousands of fish teeming in a lake waiting to be caught. As he kept walking, he saw that one or two fish were caught afresh but left on the banks of the lake without anyone to attend to it. As he kept walking further, he saw a huge bear come out of the forest nearby, to devour the man of God.

Just then he heard the voice of the Lord speak to Him and say, “Jump into the lake.” So he jumped into the lake and kept swimming on the surface. The bear jumped in too, and began chasing him. So the Lord spoke again and said, “Go deeper and stay there.” So the man of God swam deeper and sat on the bed of the Lake. As he sat there, he asked the Lord, “Lord how can I live here?” The Lord said to him, “I will keep you alive.”

When he woke up from the dream, the Lord taught him that the church needs to IMMERSE herself in the WORD, and not just be shallow in her knowledge of the Word. We need revelation. We need to be on our KNEES. And the Lord will be FAITHFUL to carry us through the storms.

The Lake was a representation of the WORD and the teeming fishes were a representation of His PROMISES. The fishes that were caught and left unattended was a representation of the lack of interest in God’s promises. The bear represented the turbulent days ahead.

Just as the Word of God held Peter’s feet firm, the Word of the Living God will also carry us through every single storm, just as He has carried us thus far, ALL OUR lives.

Just as Salvation for Israel came out of the Waters, (So she called his name Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.” Exodus 2:10) so shall our Salvation in these days come forth from the Living Water – the WORD.

“The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;” Psalm 34:15.

Not the faintest cry of our hearts will escape his ears! Be of good courage, and let the Living Word, Christ Jesus, carry us through!!!

Blessed DAYS Ahead!!!

LEAH!

About 2 weeks ago, I was meditating on the character of Leah in the Bible, who was the mother of six of the twelve tribes of Israel. Her personality made a profound impact in my mind and I wonder why she is seldom studied!! Maybe we could quickly dive into her life to see what we can learn from her life.
We know that all of Israel’s twelve tribes came forth from 4 women. Leah, Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah. Of these 4 women, Leah was the mother of six of the tribes of Israel, including Judah, whose tribe our Lord, Christ Jesus came from.
If we do a brief study of Judah, (the tribe from whom our Lord was from) it isn’t too pretty. A lot of chaos and mess! So, I could not wrap my mind around the fact that God chose the tribe of Judah to send his only Begotten Son!! Frankly, Judah would have been any one of our last choices. But it was God’s Final Choice!!
I was trying to understand why?!! Let us for a moment step back in time a little bit and go a little bit deeper.
Jacob fell in love with Rachel the very first glance he saw her. But when he asked Rachel’s hand in marriage, her father deceived the guy by getting her older daughter, Leah married to Jacob. From that moment on, Leah’s life was practically devastated.
She was on one hand the wife of Jacob, but day and night she had to live with the fact that the heart of her husband was not in love with her, but rather was enamored in love with her own sibling, Rachel. A place where NO WOMAN would want to be in. Even God took a note of her painful position!
“When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, he enabled her to have children, but Rachel could not conceive.” Gen 29:31
Leah brought forth 4 sons in a row and after giving birth each time, we read in her confessions, how much she longed for the love of her spouse. Another fact that evidently stood out, was her OUTSTANDING pre-disposition about the goodness of God!! Not a SINGLE time do we see her complaining, although she had EVERY reason to do so!!
She could have been mad with her Dad for ruining her life. She could have been mad with her sister Rachel for stealing her husband’s love. And of course she could have been bitter with Jacob for quite obviously ignoring her for another woman! But Leah simply refused to let her circumstances determine what she would confess over HER life and the lives of HER CHILDREN!
Even through her personal sorrow and agony, she still purposed firmly to keep her Hope in the unending GOODNESS OF GOD!! She BELIEVED God to be righteous in everything He did, whether she understood it or Not!!
And God indeed was!! He was FAITHFUL to the tears of a lonely Mother. He sent His own Son through the Tribe of Judah, whose Mother was LEAH! He also chose the Tribe of Levi to minister before Him in the temple. No other tribe had that incredible honor of drawing close to God, under the Old Covenant, except the tribe of Levi, whose Mother was LEAH! God honored Leah!
Even as Leah was naming her children amidst all the pain, little did she know that she was calling out the DESTINY OF A NATION which was going to be God’s very own special people! The Nation of ISRAEL!!!
The name by which she called forth each son, by FAITH, was more powerful than some of the mess-ups that the sons actually DID!! GOD valued the FAITH and the HOPE of a lonely Mother and blessed Her Sons.
That’s My God! He sees what NO ONE else sees! He VALUES what EVERYONE else would discard! You may be a Leah, unloved and Alone, or you maybe a Rachel loved and adored! In God’s grand scheme of things, when we learn to SPEAK LIFE especially when circumstances get difficult, we are shaping INCREDIBLE DESTINIES for generations to Come!!
And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Now I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Genesis 29:35
And out of JUDAH, came forth the Lamb of God!! Incredible what a simple Mother’s DECREEING can do!!!

Happy Women’s week to all the favored Women out there….Favored of God.
A Blessed Lenten season too!!!
