I love stories of faith. The very first story of faith that got me sit up on my chair was a little story from the book, “The prayer of Jabez”. I was in grade 12 then. My uncle who at that time travelled quite a bit, had picked up this book for me.
The book had story after story of daring faith and how God answered them when his children prayed. When young boys and girls on a missionary trip hit hurdle after hurdle, they simply just didn’t give up and say, “Maybe it is not Gods will for us to go there”!!! They battled in prayer, dared to ask God for even greater things, and the little book reveals how God was faithful to answer every single one of them.
“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9
I enjoy making music. This time I wanted to make one with my friends from St Louis. My friends were excited! And so was I. We dutifully finished all the vocal recordings and now it was time to shoot the video.
Almost all of us are busy Moms, so our schedules were quite full with running around here and there and everywhere!!!
And so, we had finalized June 21st Sunday to record the video. My husband and I went to a couple of parks and had fixed the location. About a week before, I casually checked the weather, and there was rain in the forecast for the 21st. I wasn’t really sure what to do. We had a quick discussion with the ladies and all of them had their calendars full. If we had moved it, it would have been a while before we could have done it.
So we decided to stick to the date. And I started praying earnestly for the Lord to give us clear skies. Every day I would check the weather forecast for the 21st, a few times!! The forecast remained unchanged. So I quickly decided to order some indoor lights and told the girls that we would have indoor video shooting instead of outdoor.
Three days before the day of the shoot, the forecast still showed a whole day of torrential rain and thunderstorms.
Thirugnanam, our dear brother in Christ, the Camera person had to drive quite a distance to get to our home. Some of the ladies had to drive quite a distance to get to our home as well. If there was going to be non-stop rains, then we simply couldn’t have had the shoot coz’ we didn’t want to risk anyone’s car sliding off the roads.
The night before, as is the norm, during our family prayer, we sang a little hymn, read the Bible and got down on our knees. Then I started praying. I wasn’t planning on crying, but with tears I told the Lord, “ Lord, YOU HEARD ELIJAH AND STOPPED THE RAINS, and YOU OPENED THE HEAVENS WHEN HE ASKED.” Your Word says he was a man just like one of us, so dear Lord I ASK, Would you please stop the rains.”
….. and finished my prayer.
The next day it was cloudy. And at around noon, it started pouring, with loud thunder and lightning. It didn’t stop. At 1:30 pm, I asked my husband if I should call it off. He said, we will decide at 3:00 pm. I had lost all hope that we would be able to shoot the video.
At around 3:00 pm, the Sun began to shine. The clouds were still there, but the Sun began to shine. Every now and then, it drizzled but the skies were smiling and so was I !!! 🙂 By the grace of God, everyone arrived safely and we had a wonderful time laughing and singing together. And everyone returned home safe. I couldn’t thank God enough!!
When I retired to bed, I got on my knees and said, “Thank you, Lord.” The God of the Skies and the rain, is the one whom I call “Father”!!! What a privilege! What a privilege!!
“The disciples were filled with great awe and asked, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Mark 4:41
Some battles are big,
Some battles are small,
But God cares equally for them all!!!
Dare to believe!!!
“Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” John 11:40
