Quickthoughts: Grace and Truth

Jesus came in “Grace and truth” says the scriptures. I have heard many sermons on Grace. But very very sparsely, messages of TRUTH.

“Without Holiness you cannot see the Lord”

“You cannot have both the World and Christ! It has to be one or the other.”

“Without continual Obedience, we cannot hear the Lord.“

“If there is any sin enticing you, CUT it off by all means and just flee”

These are just some random statements of truth.

John the baptist was beheaded and Christ our Lord was stoned. If you closely observe the occasions when such events took place, you would always see that these events were preceded by statements of TRUTH.

When John the baptist confronted the King and told him that it was unrighteous for him to have his brother’s wife, what happened next was his head on the platter, because the woman about whom he spoke, hated to hear the truth. Similarly if you read about the time when Jesus was about to be stoned, you will see that it was when he said that he was the Son of God, making himself equal with God. The Pharisees of the day thought that it was utter blasphemy when Jesus said this. But Jesus was simply stating the TRUTH.

In our world today as well, we see that our society simply can’t handle it when TRUTH is spoken to them. Truth in essence is always painful to hear. It almost always hurts. But I’d rather have one person who would speak the truth to me, than 99 people who say that I’m fine as I am!!! I need to KNOW my blindspots! How else can I change??!

The time where we can correct ourselves is here and now. After we leave the earth, it will be too late.

Here’s a funny illustration: If you were not smelling good, a stranger would NOT be the first to tell you! It will always be your closest friend or family member. I could relate to that, because I’m constantly telling my teenage son, “Get your deodorant, Jade. Take your shower, Jade!” I know he may not like ‘hearing’ that!! But no one else is going to tell him that!! I say that for a reason and I say that because I LOVE HIM!!

So, as much as we all have friends who encourage us and support us, (we need that too, btw!! ), we also need to have elders in our lives who will speak TRUTH to us though it seems painful!!

‘Wisdom’ is being able to hear truth with the right spirit and change ourselves if we have to!! If we get offended at our prophet Nathan’s (whatever form they may be ), we are to be pitied, coz we are living in a bubble that might elevate us only to burst at some point!!

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17

Have a Blessed week!
