He is in the 3 yr old classroom this year. Last year he was in the two’s classroom. He wasn’t making eye contact, he wasn’t listening, he wasn’t talking. If you aren’t a mother, there is simply no way you would understand the stress that this can bring. I’ve been there! I’ve seen those days with my own. All I remember is I wept and wept and wept. Not for days, not for weeks, but for years. I said, “Lord, but I thought I was in your perfect will.” Heaven was silent. Sometimes it is!
God never unfolds the end at the very beginning although he knows the end from the beginning.
Let’s call this little one, Max.
I’m not sure if it was because I had been through the same journey, and never gave up on my own precious one, I never gave up on Max either. From the moment he entered the music room until the time he left, I would call his name and ask him what song he wanted to sing. Most days, it seemed like I was talking to a wall.
But something in me, just wouldn’t give up. I had heard it before. “I don’t think he can do it. Don’t waste your time”. Mmmm …mmmm I wasn’t going to just give up!!! I knew I would have a breakthrough, coz I was voraciously feeding on the WORD. I knew my God was a healer, a God of breakthroughs. I gave my every ounce of energy for my precious little one 15 years ago, and I was going to do the same for little Max, now.
After a whole year of prodding, finally Max started engaging. Towards the end of last year when I asked him, “ Max, what song do you want to sing”, he would quietly come up to me and say, “Cookie?” I knew exactly what song he was asking!! My joy would know No bounds!! I was leaping and jumping on the inside of me!!! It really felt absolutely surreal to hear just that one word!!
Yesterday when I asked him, “what song do you want to sing Max?” He said, “I want …… dinosaur “. That was 3 words!! 3 words in a sentence. It felt like an accomplishment!!!
Today, I was walking the two year old class to the playground. There at a distance was Max with his classmates running and playing on the playground. But when he saw me, he came running, beaming with a smile looking at me and waving with all his strength. His wave silently said many things to me… although no words were really spoken. “Thank you Ms Varna, for not giving up on me!” I was one HAPPY teacher!!
JESUS CHRIST our Lord entered our World to taste what suffering really looked like. He just simply didn’t sit up in heaven and say I love you. He stepped down from his throne, entered this sinful world and understood every grief first hand. He went through Betrayal, pain, forsakenness by family, poverty and many such human griefs . He went through everything! He carried our sicknesses and pain. Now, no one can tell the Lord, “you won’t understand my pain Lord.” Because he does!!!
I genuinely believe I would never have connected with my little Max if I had not been through such a path of my own. And I believe God takes us to places and causes us to meet people whom ONLY WE can touch. Had God even tried to explain any of this 15 years ago, I wonder if I would have grasped it. I think not! That’s maybe why he simply chooses to stay silent. His silence does not mean he is absent, but it only means he is seeing every tear and hearing every prayer, but the answer for such tears and prayers may come 15 years later through your own Max’s whom God has planted in YOUR path. That day, YOUR joy, like mine will know NO BOUNDS!
Until then, HOLD ON! Good things are on the way!
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Cor 1:3,4
Each of you are uniquely needed for the Kingdom Work to touch One soul at a time. Blessed week ahead!
