First Resort..

The people of Israel were miraculously saved from the army of the Egyptians, by mighty wonders, by the hand of God. They sure must have been thrilled to see the seas split open right before their eyes. What a spectacular moment that must have been!!! God was fighting for His Children…. He saved Israel… but the army of Egypt drowned into the Red sea, whose remains are found till this day in the depths of the ocean bed in the Red Sea!!! After which, God brought them to a desert place where they had to wait a while before they can march forward and conquer the lands that God had promised to them. “That” my friends was a period of testing!!!
Days rolled by, months went by and years passed by and God was silent. And their hearts began to grumble and moan and whine. This act displeased God.

The LORD said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the miraculous signs I have performed among them? Numbers 14:11

We are all human and in life, disappointments do occur. Disappointments and troubles in life are quite inescapable and many of them are infact ordained by the hand of God. The Israelites were no exception. They were waiting for years to occupy the land that was promised by God and since it didn’t happen, they were getting impatient. And it is a normal human emotion to become discouraged. Similarly, the Israelites were discouraged. In their discouragement, the people of Israel talked to ‘each other’ about their frustrations, and began to doubt the promises of God.

Who is ‘your’ first resort during times of discouragement??? For a very very very long time, my first resort to discouragement was a phonecall to my Mum saying… ‘Mummmmy”…. I was not only burdening her with my worries… but getting her into such deep distress that would take her days to come out of!!! For me, I had to ‘grow up’ and start taking things to the One who is able to change my circumstances and situations, rather than taking it to somebody who can do nothing about it!!!

When Rachel was childless and spoke to her husband Jacob about it, Jacob had a very wise reply. “Am I in the place of God who has kept you from having children?” Gen 30:2 In due course God did bless Rachel with two sons who went on to be a huge blessing for Israel!!! Whatever your circumstances or situations may be… turn it over to God… He can turn things around with One finger, than what man can struggle to do with all His lifetime!!! Jesus said,

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” John 14:1
