When the Angel of the Lord announced to Mary, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”, I’m sure Mary’s thoughts about the child she was to conceive, were very very different from what actually happened!!! I don’t wish to speculate on what her thinking could have been, but I’m one hundred percent sure that she would not have expected her Son, the Son of the most High, whom she was privileged to carry, to be hanging on a cross 33 years later, brutally beaten, scornfully mocked and bleeding to death!!! She perhaps wondered what God meant by saying…. “Rejoice, you who are highly favored.”
Let us see the whole situation from God’s perspective. We can’t speculate on that either. But when God entrusted His Son into the hands of the Carpenter and a young maiden named Mary, He surely knew what He was doing. God trusted Mary and Joseph to raise His own Son. They were good, godly parents who loved Jesus, taught Jesus and admonished Him just as any loving parent would do. And God indeed was pleased with Jesus (Matthew 3:17).
Mary and Joseph had done their duty. Now it was time for God to take over. When Jesus was 30 years, He stepped into public ministry and life was never again the same for Jesus’ parents. The Jewish High priests must have hated Mary and Joseph on account of Jesus. Many people loved Jesus but there were many more who hated Him. Mary could not understand if this could really be GOD!!! When the High priests were plotting the death of Jesus she still must have thought to herself, “NO, He cannot die for the one that I conceived, is the Son of the Most High”!!! But when Jesus indeed died, Mary’s World must have fallen apart. She perhaps lost all her Faith. And I have always seen in my life that our thoughts are never God’s thoughts. God has His own way of bringing glory to His Holy name.
Coz’ when Earth was mourning a death….. Heaven was beginning their preparations for a glorious celebration for E.T.E.R.N.I.T.Y!!! Earth’s loss is always Heavens gain.
Without a death there is no resurrection…. And perhaps if you are going through a trying time…. Simply “Rejoice, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
When death gives way to victory,
It is the beginning of a brand New Story!!!
