Shepherding is something that the poorest of the poor do. Yet, that little seemingly insignificant of all menial jobs, somehow has found favor in Gods eyes. I wonder Why?! So much so that God referred to himself as “the good Shepherd.”
Jesus could have called himself “ I am the good Physician”. Isn’t he? Indeed he is! But he didn’t call himself that way. Or he could have said “ I am the good King”. Isn’t he? Indeed he is! But he didn’t call himself that way. When Pilate questioned him before his crucifixion if he was a King, Jesus simply replied “Yes, what you say is true.” Jesus could have called himself “I am the Prince of Peace, for that was the title given to the coming Messiah by the mouth of prophet Isaiah. But Jesus did not even refer to himself as a prince. But he did say, “I am the good Shepherd.”
I may never understand why out of all the occupation in the world, perhaps thousands of them, why God chose to refer to himself as the “ good Shepherd”. But there is nothing more comforting to know that He is my Shepherd. He walks before me. He leads the way, I simply follow. Jesus cares for his Sheep and make no mistake, when I leave the fold, his staff and his rod bring me right back! Odha kuduthavadhu koottitu vandhiduvaaru!
“ Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
Don’t be afraid. Hold your Shepherd’s hand and walk with him. He doesn’t lead you to Brown pastures, he leads you to green pastures.
Blessed week ahead!
