One of the most terrifying scriptures in the Word to me is the one where Jesus says, “Depart from me, you workers of iniquity, I never knew you.”
Just let those words sink in…
What would it be like for a person, who thought they were living the ‘good’ Christian life, but after all of their years of living, when they stand before the Master, they hear these words, “Depart from me…” What would that moment feel like to realize that they are lost forever in eternal flames?
The interesting part of this scripture is that Jesus does not say this to non-believers. These words are spoken to the believers.
Surely Jesus is a friend of sinners, but there is coming a day, that we will face him as the Judge!
Shocked and somehow presenting their case before Jesus, this group replies,
“We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.”
“But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ Luke 13:26,27
To those of us who think going to church regularly and even taking part of the holy communion as a ritual or listening to anointed preaching can get us into heaven, it is imperative for the sake of our souls that we search our hearts again.
Get to KNOW YOUR GOD!
The words that Jesus says here is strong and clear to those who claimed to know him: “I never knew you…”
So, what is Jesus expecting from us then, that he may know us? First and foremost, 1. that we take the time to read His Word, 2. hear His voice through the Word and 3. walk out His will in our lives.
That’s the reason why God was angry with this crowd. They went to church, dutifully took communion, heard anointed (Christ in our Pastors/Leaders) preaching and came back home and lived the way they always had.
For many many years, that was my life. I went to church, took communion, listened to a multitude of sermons and came back home and went about my business without the slightest of guilt. I thought of myself as the “perfect” Christian.
There are millions around you and me who think the same.
Christ found me in my pit back in 2005 and lifted me up out of the grave! Praise God, my life was changed!
I tremble everytime I read this scripture. I pray that we won’t take our Christian life for granted. Christian liberties are being plucked away from our hands little by little. It scares me to think of the America we will see in the next 5-10 years!
While we still have our liberties, use them to draw as close as possible to your King. Get on your knees and weep before him saying, You can’t live a moment without Him…
“Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:9,10
At the very least, we can atleast start praying for someone whom we know in our circle who still needs to be saved! We do not have much time left on the clock before our liberties will be snatched away from us.
Last year one of the scriptures that came quite strong to me was,
“As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.” John 9:4
Surely there is a time coming when all Christian preaching and teaching will be will be stopped and Christian content be blocked in the name of ‘tolerance’. It’s coming. It’s coming. Get close to JESUS and strengthen your relationship with him.
Start on your knees with God’s Word in your hand….may He light the way!
Get to KNOW HIM… Get to KNOW HIM.
