Quick Reads: Preparatory phase

He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts – but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.” Mark 6:8.

This was such an interesting commandment to the disciples by the Lord Jesus, as He sent them to the nearby towns to preach the gospel. He told them not to take anything for themselves! No bread, no money, no bag of personal belongings… nothing! Imagine with me what the disciples must have felt! Their first expression would have been one of fear! What do I do if I get hungry? What do I do if there is nobody to host us in the town we go to? Human “What if’s” surely have no end!

But I believe Jesus gave such a commandment on purpose – To help His disciples prepare for a great journey ahead of them. After the resurrection of Jesus, the disciples would have to carry the gospel to places new to them. This was more of a preparatory phase, where they MUST understand that when they obey the Word of the Lord and trust God, rest assured, ALL their needs will be taken care of!!

We don’t need to worry about ‘How’ God will provide or ‘when’ He will provide, but

“On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” Genesis 22:14.

Prayer: Dear Lord, in this journey of life, YOU are the One on whom we fix our eyes. We trust in your power and might to provide us what we need, just at the right time. We thank you for your goodness. In Jesus name. Amen.
