This morning when I woke up, I was reminded of an incident that happened 5-7 years ago. I was mulling over that in my mind, as we were getting ready to church. The sermon that my Pastor shared this morning complemented what I was already meditating in my mind, so I thought I’d write about it today.
I have been reading the book of Isaiah for the last few days and this time, one thing stood out to me.
Here in this book, God is challenging his people Israel, if they know any other God like him who declares the end from the beginning. He is wearied by the idolatrous life that the children of Israel are living and instead of turning to the true God of Israel, they are constantly turning to things created by the hand of man.
In saying so, one of the things God says is that that there is no God like him who“declares the things to come.”
“ for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me. I declare the end from the beginning, and from ancient times what is still to come” Isaiah 46:9-10
Who then is like Me? Let him say so!…….. Let him foretell the things to come, and what is to take place. Isaiah 44:7
“Therefore I told you these things long ago; before they happened I announced them to you.” Isaiah 48:5
These scriptures are just a glimpse of what is hidden in the Book of Isaiah. So, one of the characteristic features of God is that, he declares things to come, BEFORE they happen. Not always… but whenever HE wills. This theme gets repeated over and over again in the book of Isaiah.
About 5-7 years ago, one morning when I got out of bed to pray, I had a strong impression in my heart to book an appointment with a paediatrician right away for my daughter. We didn’t have a pediatrician at that time for her, coz we were still looking for a good pediatrician. But I sensed an urgency, a strong impression, to get it done immediately.
So, not even knowing why I’m booking an appointment I booked an appointment with a pediatrician nearby and went over for a “general check- up”. Everything looked good and the doc said, “she’s fine, but let me quickly check her ears and you could head out.”
The doctor looked into her ears again and again and said, looks like there is a bead inside her ear and she showed it to me. Sure enough, a small little white color pearl-bead, the size of a mustard seed was deep inside her ear and the doctor said that I should make an appointment at the earliest with an ENT doctor to get it out, as they didn’t have the specialized equipment to get it out. ( From then on, I have never bought a bead set to little girls as birthday gifts. )
Nervous as a wreck, my husband called several ENT doctors and the earliest appointment we could get was a week away. We kept praying in nervousness the whole week.
On the day of the appointment, I woke up trembling thinking what might have happened to the pearl bead. That morning the Holy Spirit, out of the blue brought this scripture to my mind: “ David recovered all.” I had a sense of peace as I went to the doctor’s office.
The doctor used a suction tube kinda thing and sucked out the pearl. And checked again to see if there was anything more perhaps. She confirmed and said, “I checked to see if there is anything else, “I think we got it all.”
I can’t put into words how thankful I was for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, for warning me BEFOREHAND of the danger ahead. That is a unique characteristic feature of our living God. In Tamil we say “Jeevanulla Devan”, meaning he is a living God. He is not lifeless, nor does he stay quiet when his children are in peril. He rises up to work on their behalf!
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
All throughout the scripture we see this pattern of God announcing things-to-come to his children before they actually happen. Again, not always, but I think whenever he wills. God spoke to Abraham that his descendants would be slaves in a far off land and that he would eventually deliver them. Also, God showed Joseph through dreams that his family would one day bow before him.
And I believe once we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, through the Spirit, there is no limit to walking closely with your God. Personally I started encountering God in a realistic way only after I was baptized in the Holy Spirit. So, if you aren’t yet baptized in the Holy Spirit, ask the Lord to fill you and He will.
I remember when I was in India my Mom and I were traveling by train to Tirunelveli once. We met a lady who was a Christian who started sharing her experiences with the Lord. She said she just prayed with tears to be filled with the Holy Spirit for several months. And one day, in her room when she was on her knees with the Bible opened before her, she was filled with the Holy Spirit. No one laid hands on her, nobody around her… nothing!!! Just a genuine child like thirst for the living God. And God fulfilled her request.
“While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.” Acts 19:1-2, 6.
I want to encourage all young Moms to seek God for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I believe that these kind of experiences, God does not reserve for just a chosen few, but for ANYONE who wants to walk closely with him. For the days ahead, we absolutely need the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Your walk with your God, will never again be the same.
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:13
Blessed week ahead!
