Determined Prayers

This post is to encourage young Moms to be determined in your prayers. I’ll tell you why… because God loves determined prayers!

I have not been to a Bible School and so I do not have an in-depth knowledge of scripture. Whatever little I may know, I have been taught by the school of life. It is through my personal walk with Christ that I have learned some of what I’m about to share. There is simply one aim to this post. To encourage young moms to be bold in your prayers!

It was Covid season. Everyday, watching the news was a nightmare. Friends and family around us were falling sick and in the initial days just like the rest of the world, we were trying to figure out what on earth this thing was!

During that season, women from fellowship gathered quite regularly (virtually)to pray for one another. During that socially isolated season, this virtual prayer gathering was a breath of fresh air. We held each others’ families in prayer.

During one of the gatherings, one of the women shared a prayer request for her friend’s family. The young mom who had three little children, ( the youngest being 1 yr old), was admitted to the hospital for Covid. She was deteriorating quite rapidly. The Dad was first affected and then the Mom was affected. If I remember correctly a friend was watching over the kids I think. It was a very very depressing situation. Just as usual, each of the women were given 1 prayer point to pray and we took turns praying. They asked me to pray for the young Mom, and I prayed. The other women prayed for many other prayer points. The virtual prayer gathering was over and we completed the call.

After we completed the call, I was extremely burdened thinking of this situation. Because just a few years before, a very dear and a close friend of mine passed away due to an illness leaving behind her 2 little sons. I just couldn’t bear the thought of another young Mom leaving this world. I thought of the little children and was very distressed.

Many women from across many Indian congregations were also upholding this family in prayer.

That night, after making sure my daughter had slept, I got on my knees at around 10:00 pm. I began crying out for mercy for this young Mom. Lord, please… Mercy … Mercy…. Mercy… Please won’t you have Mercy on her… I pleaded with God. … one hour went by… two hours went by… it was now 12:00 am… I began to feel sleepy. I was starting to doze off…. I said… “ No Lord, I will not sleep… Mercy Lord… Mercy Lord… please Mercy… “ time went on … 1:00 am… 2:00 am… I was talking to the Lord…. with the Heavens as still as a rock… I kept pressing on… I was determined not to get to bed until I heard from the Lord. I was quite exhausted at this point… and then… in the stillness of the night I heard a still small voice… softer than a feather …. “who forgives all your iniquities and heals ALL YOUR DISEASES. “ As soon as I heard that scripture, I knew for CERTAIN that she would be fine. I looked immediately at the clock on the wall. It was 3:00 AM.

I learned a very important life lesson that day. When we press on in prayer, GOD speaks!

I had prayed for 5 hours! I still do not understand the mystery of how I prayed for 5 hours considering the fact that I DO NOT EVEN know this person! The Holy Spirit strengthens!!

Sure enough, the next time when we gathered for prayer, we received a good report that she was fine and was active on FB! lol!

In my previous post, I had mentioned that one of my favorite encounters with God in the Bible was when Jacob wrestled with God for his blessing. I’m fairly sure that this is what might have taken place… until it came to that point when he said, “ I WILL NOT LET YOU GO UNTIL YOU BLESS ME.” And then God blessed him. Jacob would simply not let God go! He was determined in his prayers.

Another prayer which changed my perspective on prayer for good was when I cried out to the Lord for another child. After Jaden, I had been crying out to God for another child, but nothing happened. I can’t imagine the sleepless nights and the voices of the enemy tormenting me day and night without respite.

One day I remember I went on my knees and cried my heart out and asked the Lord “Lord, won’t you give me another child?” After a while I felt such a peace… a beautiful sense of peace settled upon my heart. I heard no voice. I just felt a calm reassuring peace. That moment I knew God had heard me. Just like it was spoken of Hannah, “And her face was no longer sad”, 1 Sam 1:18, I got up from my place of prayer, coz I knew I was heard. Three months later I conceived.

In the global church today, how many of us have stood on our knees battling with God in prayer for our own situations, let alone another’s. We make 3 minute or 5 minute prayers. While this is inevitable in church ( where we don’t have much time to devote specifically for prayer ) what about our private time with God in our own prayer closet? We must be mothers and fathers who pray without giving up. We must learn to get a hold of the horns of the altar and cry out for our families and children. We must battle in prayer.

One of the stories that has greatly inspired me over the years is the story of a preachers Mother. When the world reknown preacher was a little boy he had trouble with speech and used to have severe wheezing episodes. It almost seemed like he would die. But the Mother would declare boldly that his mouth would speak for God one day, and the devil cannot touch his life. She did this for many years. The young boy was later on healed and travelled the World proclaiming the gospel message. All because a mother was relentless in prayer.

So some of you may ask, so what if I have prayed for years and I have seen no change? Here’s my take on that. We NEVER lose anything by praying too much. In every way we see, we stand to gain, end of the day.

But on the contrary, think of all the things you might have received, had you persisted in prayer?! The list would be endless.
Even if you don’t receive what you are praying for you would have still gotten one step closer in your walk with Christ. No one can take away from you the wealth of knowledge you have gained through prayer! So in every way it is a win-win situation.

So, don’t ever quit praying. You NEVER KNOW WHEN YOUR BREAKTHROUGH MIGHT COME. It could take 5 minutes or 5 hours. Or it could take 5 years or 15 years. But don’t ever give up Hope!

“நிச்சயமாகவே முடிவு உண்டு; உன் நம்பிக்கை வீண்போகாது.”Proverbs 23:18

There Is Surely A Future Hope For You, And Your Hope Will Not Be Cut Off. Proverbs 23:18

March Forward! Blessed month ahead! 💖
