Heeding certain God-sent voices

1 Samuel 25 talks of an interesting encounter King David has, with a woman named Abigail who speaks words of wisdom and steers David wisely, in his moment of anger! Abigail’s words came as sweet as honey, to restore David back to his sound mind.

We all can relate to such a story when we were quickened to act in haste, without thinking of the repurcussions of such an act. Sometimes our God sent ‘Abigail-voices’ maybe the voice of our spouse or parents or parents-in-law or leaders of the church.

“Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?” Job 12:12

Although Abigail was not really an old woman, the scriptures tell us that she she was a woman with ‘good understanding’.

Personally I believe there is much wisdom in gray hair and we younger folks belittle that a little too much! We tend to think that we understand situations better. If we admit to the truth, we all struggle at some point or the other and yet we won’t approach an elder for advice or counsel!

Another incident of a great healing is recorded in 2 Kings 5.

Now bands of raiders from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife. She said to her mistress, β€œIf only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” 2 Kings 5:2,3.

Here in this story, we see that wisdom came from a young slave girl, and thank God that although Naaman was a mighty commander of the army of Syria, he still was humble enough to listen to a word of counsel from a young servant girl.

The voices that God sends to us, may not always be in the form that we expect it to be packaged. Many times they come in unexpected forms. But when we are humble enough to receive that counsel, the life and joy that comes as a consequence of heeding that word, is immense.

Here is one of my favorite scriptures for counsel.

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14

When we set our hearts to have God’s perfect will in our lives, God steps in and perfects everything that concerns us (Psalm 138:8).

It may not always be a lightning and thunder answer everytime, but sometimes little servant girls could also be a voice through which God can speak! Do we hear Him?

He’s still workin’ on Me!

There have been many a times in my life, when I’ve looked up to someone, only to realize sooner or later that he/she is not as perfect as I thought of them to be! I walk away, disappointed! I wouldn’t have gone past few hours that I myself said something crazy or did something stupid and here I am saying, “God, please forgive me, I’ve stumbled again!”

Here’s truth as it is. Every one of us, are ‘work in progress’. While we all strive hard to be perfect in God’s eyes, none of us have attained perfection completely. And to expect that degree of perfection from a fellow believer is also equally silly.

Our Father in heaven is a Master in working out His beautiful character in each of us in different ways. The way he works with me, may not be the same way he may work with you. But one thing we can be sure of! JESUS IS WORKING! He is working in every one of our lives, to make us like gold, that we can shine like the stars forever and ever, all around His awesome throne! We can always trust the loving hands of our gentle Father.

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.” Philippians 3:12

He's+Still+Working+On+Me

If Paul said that he has not yet been perfected, how much more, then you and I? Here’s an old little Sunday school song that has been playing in my head. πŸ™‚

“He’s still working on me, to make me what i have to be; It took him just a week to make the moon and stars, the Sun and the Earth and Jupiter and Mars; How loving and patient he must be, Coz’ he’s still working on me!”

Isn’t our God good! He is ‘OUR FATHER’ in Heaven!

Blessed day ahead!

Man’s arch-enemy

On Sunday, we had a powerful service at church. We saw a video clip about a new drug, which is ravaging the lives of young teens around the world. All kind of drugs are bad, but this one was terrible. Young, healthy, teens who open the door to this drug, were manifesting extremely wild behaviors in the video clip. Some manifested like animals, while another young teen, banged his head on a wall with no sense of control, upon taking this drug. It was extremely heart breaking to see the next generation being ruined by the agenda of man’s common enemy, Satan, in these last days. End of the service, the church gathered at the altar and interceded for the soul of America, which has strayed way too far away from it’s Maker!

Jesus said,

“The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

The heart of God has a plan for every one of these young people. The heart of God longs and loves them beyond their wildest imagination. The hand of God which knit them in their mothers womb had a purpose over every one of their lives. And yet to see these kids being ripped apart by the forces of the dark, would move the heart of any child of God, who has tasted the love of Jesus.

The distort, hate, and the lust which the enemy has brought into this world, which the hand of God lovingly made, is beyond belief. Bloodshed in movies have become common. Infact the fiercer the fight scenes, the higher the movie rating. It is unbelievable to see the extent to which the enemy has gone, to desensitize our little children. The hate and the lust which our TV shows feed into young minds is only getting more conspicuous, with time. Our Next Generation is being ravaged before our very eyes.

The Call of the church:

When unrighteousness gets rampant upon the Earth, it is a clear Shofar call to the church to rise up and pray like never before. Pray for our young people, that they may be set free into the destiny that God has called them into! Pray that their blindness will be undone that they may reach to the foot of the Cross for mercy, forgiveness and grace.

Jesus is Love. Oh…His heart is so full of LOVE. For every one of these young ones. This post is more of a call to pray; as an individual, as a family, as a small little Prayer group, or as a church. Prayer is POWER. The most powerful weapon that the church still has to push back the darkness and establish righteousness on Earth. Pray…pray especially for the next generation kids, whom the enemy is targeting to destroy.

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

Rising above the Voices:

Every day we are bombarded with many voices. From taking a quick look at the world around us, we easily read that people are more discouraged, hurting and hopeless. Fear has taken the upper hand and has left man in a state of frenzy. World over, crime rates have increased. Mind health has deteriorated, even among young teens! A word which was very rarely used in clinics a decade ago, is surfacing all over the Internet these days – ‘Depression’.

With over a 1500 channels to keep man’s mind occupied, and thousands of restaurants to stop by for a good meal or connecting with a friend by a single click of a button – despite all the advancement in technology which is supposed to aid man in his well being, there seems to be a downward spiral into the pits of despair, instead of an upward climb. That’s ironic to me! What is supposed to help man hasn’t really helped much after all!

There are times when you’ve had the best gathering with your friends, yet when you return, you feel empty.

Clearly, I think you and I can agree that the voices around us don’t satisfy the deepest cry of our hearts. Whether those voices come through TV, radio, FB or through people – more often they leave us just a little bit more emptier than before! I’m sure we all have felt that way, at some point of time in our lives!!

When Paul and Silas were thrown into prison for their faith in JESUS, here’s what they did.

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.” Acts 16:25

Prison represents gloom, despair, loneliness, and sorrow. But when Paul and Silas began lifting up the name of JESUS in such a place, there was an earthquake which broke off their fetters of iron chains in an instant.

“And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.” Acts 16:26

There is power in the praise that arises from the place of despair. Angels move and demons tremble in such an atmosphere. The voices that were beating on you flee and the Spirit of God, floods you with Joy unspeakable. Chains of darkness are snapped in a moment when you exalt the name of JESUS. A fresh Hope floods your soul. There is something about singing to the Wonderful NAME of JESUS!

In a time, when darkness is getting denser by the day in the nations of the World, the light in God’s children shine brighter than before, simply because they know the Power of Worship when everything around them is dark.

Always take time every night to spend time singing to Jesus. By yourself and as a family!

‘Nandriyal thuthipadu’ . Blessed week ahead!

Love the last verse:

Sareeram aathuma aaviyilum sorndhu pogum velaiyil ellam; Thuthi sathathal ullam niraindhal thooyarin belan kidaikkum.

Everytime you feel weak in your body, soul and mind; fill your heart with Praise, and the Strength of your Maker will fill you!

An excellent trait

I have often wondered what humility is, in the sight of God. Humility is a word often used in the world too. But I see a vast difference in the way the world looks at it, from the way that God defines it.

When the world describes humility, it usually equates it to ‘simplicity’. For example when a highly regarded person cleans up his house, or presses his own clothes, or walks to a little shop instead of using his BMW, the world calls them humble. Surely it is a great trait indeed, but God defines humility in a little different way.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;” Proverbs 3:5.

Humility in God’s eyes, as understood from the life stories of several men and women of God in the Scriptures, is ‘leaning on God for everything’. Being God-dependent rather than independent, is what God considers as Humility.

Let’s look at David. He was one of Israels greatest Kings. Until this day, Israel honors King David. If we do a brief study of his life, we continuously see how he sought God, day and night. There were times in his life when his own people picked up stones to kill him because all their wives and children were taken away by their enemies. But the Word of God says, he found his strength in God and even still, sought God’s counsel as to what he needed to do next. Though he was a mighty warrior from childhood, he still humbled himself EVERY single time to seek God’s counsel, something that not very many Kings of Israel, did. Most Kings moved in their own wisdom, but David sought God for everything.

If we look at the life of Moses, God himself gave witness that he was the most humble man on Earth.

Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.” Numbers 12:3

Why did God say that? The children of Israel wanted to stone him to death too, several times in the wilderness. Here’s what I believe it is. There was no other man on Earth who sought God’s face for the sake of the children of Israel, as much as Moses did. The Israelites grumbled and complained at every possible instance, but Moses was always willing to fall on his face and plead for God’s mercy and direction, for the sake of Israel. He constantly sought God.

When man begins to think he can get things done by his power, intellect and wisdom, that’s a sign of pride. We, in our fragile human strength are capable of nothing.

But everytime we fall before the face of God, like Solomon did, and cry out, “Lord, I can’t do what you’ve called me to do, without YOU”, that’s Humility!

Humility is not just simplicity, but a trained trait to seek God in everything, acknowledging that ‘Without Him we can do nothing.” John 15:5

Just a star?

In the eyes of God, there’s nothing called, ‘Just-a’! πŸ™‚

Too often we are attacked by the enemy with his famous, ‘Just-a’ lines of discouragement. ‘You are just a nothing’, ‘you are just a weakling’, ‘you are just a house wife’ , ‘you are just a worthless old man’ , and frankly his list is truly endless!

But it’s amazing how God picks up the seemingly simple ‘Just a’ things and uses it marvelously for his glory!

Look at the Star. In the book of Genesis chapter 1, it seems almost like God created the star, just as a final touch up!

“He made the stars also.” Genesis 1:16

Nothing significant about this hanging in the skies. Yet, it had amazing purposes in the plan of God.

When God spoke to Abraham, he showed him the stars in the sky and said, “look at the stars….so shall your descendants be.” I almost visualise every star in the sky jumping for joy as it had a purpose in reminding God’s divine plan to Abraham!

Again, we see the seemingly insignificant star rise up and shine ever so brightly at the birth of our Lord Jesus! It was the Star that led the wise men to Christ our Lord! Isn’t it amazing how God has a plan for every little thing he has created?

In God’s dictionary there’s nothing called ‘Just-a’. Every little thing has a purpose to fulfill.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Blessed day!

Our Mighty Defender

“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My father who is in heaven.” Matthew 18:10

While talking about the people who are still to be saved (the lost sheep), Jesus said, don’t despise them because the angels appointed for them, always see the face of the Father in heaven.

HOW MUCH MORE will God defend you and me, who look to the face of our God for everything from dawn until night!!!

Our God, our defender!!

Our silent whispering prayers, our broken hearted worship, our helpless plea for strength… every single one of them reaches the ears of our Father in heaven. Be not afraid. You are indeed pleasing to God!! Our God rules the Heavens and the Earth and we call him ‘Abba’. What a privilege!
